Therapy in San Jose, CA and the broader Bay Area

I offer online therapy for adults in San Jose, Silicon Valley, and throughout California – with a particular focus on helping creative and neurodivergent people navigating burnout, anxiety, perfectionism, self-worth, and the pressure to perform. My approach is collaborative, curious, and focused not just on reducing symptoms, but on building a life that really feels good to live.

San Jose rocks because it’s unpretentious (looking at you, San Francisco), has access to some of the best, most diverse restaurants in the state, and offers easy access to anywhere in the Bay Area you might want to go. Gorgeous nature, live music, work, escape, you name it, you’re there in an hour or less, depending on traffic.

And yet, like many Bay Area residents, you may often ask yourself, “Why is life so hard? If I have all this… why am I not happy?”

Therapy can help balance the Bay Area’s great/absurd qualities

As hard as it may be, establishing creativity, self-worth, and meaningful coping with these challenges is possible. By establishing and leaning in on your strengths, existing supports, and aspirations, we can visualize a version of yourself that is realistic and fulfilled. Then, we can work together to create that life for you, brick by brick.

Mental health demands in San Jose

Let’s talk about the unique demands our area imposes on life: San Jose (a proxy for Silicon Valley at large) is consistently ranked one of the hardest places in the world to buy a home, highlighting its sky-high cost of living. Its cutthroat career competition pushes innovation and excellence at any cost. Limited opportunities for community building, along with sparse public transportation, choke opportunities to develop or deepen friendships and support networks.

The fact the bar is so high simply to exist in the Bay Area creates a pressure cooker for performance and personal expectations. Then, add in the fact that your neighbors, fellow grocery shoppers, or other drivers one lane over are likely high-achieving engineers, analysts, or leaders. One’s sense of value shifts from contributing to competing, biasing our culture towards perfectionism, workaholism, and chronic overwhelm.

These demands make it hard to do the things that offer us meaning, connection, and purpose outside of work. If you’re not feeling burned out, sensory overload, or existential malaise – congratulations, you’ve gone against the odds. But if you’re reading this, chances are you’re one of the countless people in this area struggling to balance high-performance and mental health.
